Experience
I realized I had an affinity for teaching the first time I tutored another person. I was a high school student at the time, and I was tutoring an individual in the grade below me. I found that it was something I was talented at. From the beginning, I had a knack for helping to significantly improve test scores and grades. Since that time, I have improved my own education. I am a recent honors graduate from the University of Georgia, where I studied mass media and philosophy. This has provided me with intensive skills in critical thinking and logic, skills that are unique to the philosophy major. I find that these skills help me with tutoring. By using my knowledge of reasoning and arguments, I am able to find out why a student may be struggling even when they cannot articulate the issue. I believe tutoring is a matter of helping a student understand mistakes, communicating in a pleasant and clear way, and giving the student tools to improve. I strive to help as many students as I can, in as many subjects as I am able to. Some of the subjects I am proficient in are literature, test prep, English, and critical reading. When I find myself with free time, I like to write, play sports, and make art.
