Experience
As a tutor, my focus is on helping my students discover their strengths and weaknesses, so they will find their own learning style, and be much more accepting of making mistakes. I believe that making mistakes is a crucial, and little accepted, part of the learning process. With a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science, and with a minor in Mathematics, I originally specialized in Computing Systems. I became an app developer shortly after graduating UCLA, but found that I missed in-person interactions. Working with computers wasn't enough to keep me engaged, so I left the job for a whirlwind tour of South America. I rediscovered my passion for the outdoors while on this long vacation, and when I returned to the US after five months, I began working with children in outdoor education. This type of learning immerses students in the great outdoors, hiking and camping in the Pacific Northwest. Engaging with the outdoors, I believe, helps my students become more curious about the world around them. When working as a tutor, I aim to engage my students in a similar way, honing their curiosity so they will more fully engage with their subject matter.
